Jamie and I have had a hang-up for quite some time on the whole "blogging" thing, for various reasons. However, as you can see, I've given in for the moment, feeling the need to put some things down on "paper" to help my ever fading memory OR simply release some thoughts. Of course the bag is mixed with something funny, something serious, something random and so it goes. I'm sure there will be times where I write consistently, while other times I may not care to sit and type out a single thing. Nonetheless, I thought I'd give it a whirl.
Yesterday as Jamie and I sat in church, a kid sat two seats to Jamie's left, around the age of 8 or 9. I received a sudden elbow notifying me to look over at this little boy. As I glanced over, I saw him digging his finger up his left nostril, pull it out and take a look, then press his right nostril and blow. This was followed by pulling his shirt out from under his chin to see if he had any treasures land on him. As Jamie and I tried to contain our laughter, we looked over again to see him successfully dig out a nugget, leading him to pick up his right foot from the floor to swipe it on the bottom of his shoe. Mission accomplished! I think he could breath easy again. A few minutes later, as if an uncontrollable force pulled my head, I looked back over to see this same little boy now pressing down on the crotch area of his jeans to flatten his zipper. For what seemed like two minutes (probably only 10 seconds), he continued to press to keep that zipper from popping up. Why did I find this so amusing? As Jamie and I kind of giggled, we were both thinking the same thing. One day our little boy Madden will most likely be seen by some other expecting couple doing the same thing, if not something even more outrageous. Jamie quickly informed me that me being the Dad, I would be given charge to handle Madden with these few issues. I honestly have to say, I look forward to this. I truly cannot wait to see what silly things that Madden may do to make me chuckle and possibly embarrass me all at the same time.
With us being 26 weeks pregnant with Madden, I've found myself viewing life from an entirely different set of lens the past several weeks. It has become hard for me to even walk through Target without wandering over into the baby section to see what fun stuff I might find for our little guy. When I get up on the weekends, before Jamie even thinks about rolling out of bed, I brew my coffee and think about Madden hopping up on the sofa with Daddy to read the Sports section of the paper to see who won Friday night High School Football games and what College games we'll watch on TV later in the day. Then him eagerly asking me to check out the hunting shows on the Outdoor Channel or Versus. Those are some of the simple things I look forward to when our little boy arrives and completely rocks our world. We've had a sweet friend set up a "book shower" where we receive a book a week until Madden is born (nearly 30 weeks or something crazy), and today we received our latest. Ashanti, who works with Jamie, sent us the children's/kids adapted version of "My Utmost For His Highest" called "Jesus Wants All of Me." This suddenly became an emotional moment for me. As I read the card she enclosed and thought about the pleasure I'll have of reading this to our son, I began to cry. We are going to be blessed with the sweetest little baby boy in March and we get to share God's love with him each and every day! Now that is exciting!
So there it is...my first shot at this thing. I have no idea what may come next, but whatever it is...that it is.
